Pastor Dave Johnson has been at the Vernon Baptist Church since October, 2004.  He and his wife, Christina, are the parents of seven grown children, four through specialized foster care, which led to adoption, and three by birth.  They currently have nine grandchildren scattered across the eastern U.S..  Both Pastor Dave and Chris grew up in small towns in the southern Adirondacks, but have also served the Lord in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Portland, Oregon, New Hartford, New York, Suffield, Connecticut, Riverhead, New York (Long Island), and now here in Vernon.  Pastor Dave enjoys hiking, winter (yes, even shoveling and especially sub-zero temperatures), music, sports, news, and arguing with GPS-sourced directions over the best way to get someplace.  His passion in ministry is the accurate communication of the word of God.  He takes 2 Timothy 2:15 seriously.

Pastor Johnson earned a B.A. in math from the State University College of New York at Oswego.  It was during his sophomore year there that he met Christ as Savior and developed his passion for the Scriptures.  After Christina's graduation from the former Philadelphia College of the Bible (now Cairn University), Pastor Dave earned a Masters of Divinity from the Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland, Oregon.

In over forty years of full time ministry, our pastor has served in youth, college, and young adult ministries, in church planting and Christian school endeavors, and in traditional pastoral ministry.  He has also helped train pastors and ministry leaders in Eastern Europe while teaching for several years at a Bible institute in Minsk, Belarus.  In addition, Pastor Dave has served on boards and committees at several levels within various Conservative Baptist organizations in the Northeast.  He currently serves as an Area Director for Upstate New York with Mission Northeast, our regional association of churches.

Pastor's invitation to you is to come join us in the pursuit of Christ, spurring one another on toward His likeness, obeying His command to help others, both here and around the world, to come to know and become like Jesus.
